A Celestial Adventure
Earlier this year, much of the continental United States was treated to a rare solar eclipse. I made the drive from Columbus, Ohio to Southern Illinois where totality was longer than anywhere else in the country. The six and a half hour drive and the adventure that followed was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Witnessing the surreal shift in light as the moon passed in front of the sun was unlike anything I've seen before.

I had the honor of photographing George E. Smith, a Vietnam Veteran and former Prisoner of War for 614 Magazine.
The Vietnam War has resurfaced in the American consciousness lately thanks in large part to the documentary by Ken Burns.
The documentary tells the story of the Vietnam War through the experiences of everyday soldiers on both sides, eschewing pundits, talking heads, and politicians. In doing so, it offers viewers an opportunity to see something they thought they understood in a completely new way.

His first book, "The Boy Who Tried to Touch the Sun" which he wrote and illustrated was released in October. The launch included a reading at the Columbus Museum of Art as well as articles in several local publications.
